One of the place I visit mostly is China, because I grow in Hong Kong where is part of China. Any place I went would not have any trouble for communication of me. Although we have so many dialects, but when we write Chinese, everyone will understand.
I like the old China more than new China, during that moment, it is not that commercial in China, people is quite helpful and things are not that expensive. Although you need to use the food tickets to go to the restaurant, but it is acceptable.
The place I stand is a temple, it called "Ling Yan" temple. If you never visit a temple in China, it means that you never visit China. We have different types of temple but most of them either Buddhism temple or Taoism temple. They are all around different places of China. That is one of the reason why western think us as a superstition people. Instead of saying Chinese is a superstition nation, you better say that Chinese is a respecting nation. They are more open minded which makes them more easily to absorb other kinds of religious.
Such as Buddhism was coming from Indian but it has more followers in China. As the buddhism said, "Moon's light is shining outside but not inside". That may be the Chinese Karma with the buddhism.
